Go With The Flow is officially available everywhere books are sold! Unlike some periods, this book about periods arrived on time!
Coming in at a whopping 336 pages, Go With The Flow is the teen middle-grade graphic novel about friendship, crushes, and menstruation that so many of us wished we could have had. In fact, that is why my co-author, Karen Schneemann, and I made this book. What started as a webcomic about menstruation called The Mean Magenta was then bought by First Second Books (an imprint of Macmillan Publishing) and turned into a middle-grade graphic novel about four girls in high school. When we created our girls, Abby, Brit, Christine, and Sasha, we wanted to make relatable comics about something all menstruators could relate to. Karen and I wanted to take the conversation friends have about periods and make it public. Then, when First Second bought our book we took our girls back to high school to navigate what it means to be sophomores dealing with teenage stress… and starting a menstrual revolution to boot!

From First Second
Good friends help you go with the flow.
– Macmillan
Best friends help you start a revolution.
Sophomores Abby, Brit, Christine, and Sasha are fed up. Hazelton High never has enough tampons. Or pads. Or adults who will listen.
Sick of an administration that puts football before female health, the girls confront a world that shrugs—or worse, squirms—at the thought of a menstruation revolution. They band together to make a change. It’s no easy task, especially while grappling with everything from crushes to trig to JV track but they have each other’s backs. That is, until one of the girls goes rogue, testing the limits of their friendship and pushing the friends to question the power of their own voices.
Now they must learn to work together to raise each other up. But how do you stand your ground while raising bloody hell?
Go With The Flow is officially available wherever books are sold. Karen and I hope it helps shed a spotlight on something natural and normal: periods! And we hope it gets people talking about ways we can create menstrual equity all around the world. If you already picked up a copy, thank you!
